Appointment of a new Vice-President of the Court of Protection

Mrs Justice Theis has been appointed as Vice President of the Court of Protection with effect from 13 February 2023. She will succeed Mr Justice Hayden.

Re X [2020] EWFC 39  Was the first case that the court dealt with an application for a parental order, where the intended father died during a surrogacy pregnancy – Mrs Justice Theis recognised the case as a “difficult and tragic background.”

Archie Battersbee case – Mrs Justice Theis rules it was not in the child’s best interests to be moved to a hospice and refused the family permission to appeal.
